Tool
Unquestionably a leader in hard music, Tool's unique brand of
dark, artful, alternative rock/metal has served as a major influence
for any number of bands in the hard-alternative spectrum, as
well as several nu-metal bands.
An appearance on an early Lollapalooza tour, coupled with massive
play of their inventive videos, helped catapulted
Undertow and
the band to stardom, and with each succeeding album they have
continued to push the boundaries of alternative metal.
Trivia note: my brother went to art school with the director of
the "Sober" video, and in fact was one of the major contributors
of that video.
