The Monolith Deathcult

The MOnonlith Deathcult are a model of contradictions. Their public persona (pics, press releases, and the like) paint a picture of regular guys joking around, certainly not taking anything seriously. And occasionally that bleeds into their albums, with their spoken-word/sampled interludes. But then the real music starts, and their intriguing blend of brutal death metal, industrial sampling, and symphonic grandeur is all business. There's really no one that sounds like these guys, and perhaps that, along with their image, contributes to their status below the heavyweights of the scene. The recently-completed trilogy of albums really showcases the band at their peak, though the earlier Tetragrammaton album also deserves mention. A big thumbs-up here.
