Thanatos

Thanatos was the Netherlands' oldest death metal band, if not its most prolific, having formed way back in 1984 and enjoying considerable underground popularity in the late eighties before finally signing to Shark Records in 1990. But although their first two albums were critically acclaimed, cancelled tours and poor label distribution/promotion forced the band to disband in 1992. It would be seven years before guitarist/vocalist Stephan Gebédi would put a new version of the band back together, which eventually produced 2000's Angelic Encounters, and the band prospered thereafter, with a string of albums released between 2000 and 2020. They announced their breakup in June 2022.
