Thanatos

Thanatos is the Netherlands' oldest death metal band, if not its most prolific, having formed way back in 1984 and enjoying considerable underground popularity in the late eighties before finally signing to Shark Records in 1990. But although their first two albums were critically acclaimed, cancelled tours and poor label distribution/promotion forced the band to essentially disband in 1992. It would be seven years before guitarist/vocalist Stephan Gebédi would put a new version of the band back together, which eventually produced 2000's Angelic Encounters, and since 2002 a stable lineup has prospered with several recordings.

Recent album: Violent Death Rituals, released on March 20, 2020.
