The Von Deer Skulls
Here's one for the bizarro crowd.
The Von Deer Skulls were labelled somewhere as "progressive post-doom".
To be clear,
this is not progressive, this is not doom, and this is not post-metal,
but once you listen to this, you say to yourself,
"yes, this is what progressive post-doom might sound like".
It's an odd sound, bass-heavy, sparse, evoking a David Lynchian
atmosphere (also referenced elsewhere, but oddly accurate),
with scratchy spoken vocals and rather meandering song structures.
The non-music aspects of the band are just as strange --
the members wear odd masks, apparently are from all over the world,
with back stories either strange or fanciful
(did the band really employ a twin brother/sister combo, both as drummers?).
Yet to dismiss this as random weirdness would be a disservice,
as their style is actually cool and intriguing.
