Abbath
Tensions between Abbath and Demonaz, the two core members of the
mighty
Immortal,
had been brewing for some time following the release of that band's
last album in 2009.
By 2015 Abbath had had enough -- citing an inability to work with Demonaz
any longer, he struck out on his own, and thus Abbath the band was born.
This is not his first foray into solo work, as he had a project
simply titled
I
that released an album back in 2006.
Comparing
Abbath (the 2016 self-titled album) to his past, this new
project is closer to Immortal than the more traditional metal of I,
though it's a bit more stripped-down (i.e. more in-your-face, less epic)
than Immortal.
Demonaz is continuing with a new Immortal lineup, so it will be interesting
to see how both bands progress moving forward.
