Behemoth

Arguably one of the best bands to originate from Poland, Behemoth was formed in 1991 by Nergal, who through many lineup changes is the one constant in the band. The band's career arc spans from black metal in the early days, to a black/death hybrid (particularly on albums such as Satanica and Thelema.6), and finally moving more into a pure death metal outfit on Demigod and later albums. The band has had more than its fair share of controversy, notably appearing on a list of to-be banned bands in 2007 and Nergal's leukemia diagnosis and subsequent bone marrow transplant. With his medical issues behind him, he and the band have stormed back in 2014 with The Satanist, which is garnering major acclaim as one of the best albums of the year.
