Butcher Babies

When a band bursts onto the scene sporting a pair of women vocalists wearing practically nothing on stage, people are going to take notice. The stage attire was less pure sex appeal and more an homage to the infamous Plasmatics frontwoman Wendy O. Williams, an unabashed influence of both vocalists and in fact the name of this band comes from the Plasmatics song "Butcher Baby". Perhaps in an attempt to be taken more seriously as a musical act, the pair became somewhat less scantilly clad after the first couple years, though there's still a draw there and the intensity of their live shows no doubt have not diminished. As to the music, at least on the debut four-track EP, it's passable anthemic modern, thrashy, punky nu-metal, with the women forcefully screaming their way through the tracks. Reviews on the followup, the 2013 full-length Goliath, seem to be more positive, so there's plenty of room for this band to establish themselves as more than a novelty act.
