Devlin
Devlin is a side project of
Siebenbürgen
guitarist Marcus Ehlin, though this group has nothing
to do with black metal as Siebenburgen does.
Instead,
Grand Death Opening is an laidback, mid-paced
gothic rock/metal album, with a somewhat sterile production and
rather simplistic song structures.
Ehlin handles the instruments and the occasional death-ish
growl, while Lexi's clear, melodic female vocals are the
main selling point of the band.
A rather odd version of Billy Idol's
White Wedding is
included, though it isn't really the best representation of
what this band is capable of.
Overall, an enjoyable enough album, if not an essential listen.
