H.I.M.

HIM (shortened from the original full name of His Infernal Majesty) was a self-proclaimed "love metal" band and one of the leaders of the goth rock scene. Finland appears to have a virtual lock on this style of music, what with Entwine, Poisonblack, For My Pain ..., To/Die/For, and others all providing similarly enjoyable takes on melancholy hard rock. HIM was as good as any, not radically different from any of the aforementioned bands, but they hit all the right notes, and in heartthrob vocalist Ville Valo they had a true star, a charismatic frontman able to lead the band as far as they can go. They actually trademarked the so-called heartagram symbol which shows prominently on their Love Metal and Dark Light album covers. They amicably disbanded following a farewell tour in late 2017, their last show taking place on New Year's Eve.
