Lonewolf

Lonewolf is one several bands comprising a French traditional metal scene that has flourished for decades, even if not as well known as those from other European countries. The band first formed in the early 90's, then broke up after a spell, returning in 2000 and embarked on a pretty prolific recording career (7 albums in a recent 10-year span). As heard on the recent Raised On Metal album, the focus here is on traditional Germanic power metal (notably Running Wild), with founder Jens Börner's gruff vocals somewhat limiting but at least respite from the wailers that often overextend themnselves. It's all competantly done but really rather pedestrian -- even in the realm of power metal where originality is hardly a requirement for success, Lonewolf comes across as rather typical. But give 'em credit for perservering, a nine-album career is nothing to sneeze at, and no doubt the band has their fair share of fans.
