Ritual

Ritual was one of those long-lost, could-have-been bands, doing the rounds in England in the seventies and eighties but never making serious headway. They formed way back in 1973, but it took ten years before they put out an album, entitled Widow, an album without the band name on it at all (thus leading to many thinking the band name was Widow). Again it took a decade before another release, Valley Of The Kings in 1993. The style is very 70's-oriented, with additional NWOBHM nods and a sort of occult feel, featuring clear vocals and nice riffs -- not exactly Sabbath-style bludgeoning, but well-played dark metal, particularly the second album where the production values improved. A nice band for old-school metallers to track down. Both albums have been excellently re-released by Shadow Kingdom Records with new artwork and additional tracks.
