Rwake

Rwake (pronounced simply "wake", the band's original name) has been Arkansas' finest sludge combo for some time now, recording somewhat sporadically since their 1999 debut. As heard on their 2007 Voice Of Omens, they embody sludge metal, with drippingly heavy riffs and tortured, distant screaming, though they aren't afraid to let a bit of atmospheric ambience creep in as well. It's surprisingly mature and well developed, showing a bit more variance and emotion than one might think on first listen. Their 2025 The Return Of Magick (their first studio album in 14 years) apparently shifts a bit into post-metal territory.
