Stone Sour

Once known primarily as a Slipknot side project (technically inaccurate, as this band's history predates Slipknot's by several years), Stone Sour has forged its own identity as a standout alternative metal band. Their history dates back to 1992, founded by Corey Taylor and Joel Ekman. After several years of building up a local following in the Midwest, they essentially broke up in 1997, with the trio of Taylor, James Root, and Shawn Economaki joining Slipknot (the latter as a manager), It wasn't until 2000 that guitarist Josh Rand approached the others and they formally reunited, releasing their debut in 2002. Bolstered by the Spider-Man soundtrack hit "Bother", the album placed the band squarely on the alt metal map, though without question the Slipknot connection aided them exposure-wise. Only Taylor and Rand remain from the early days, with Taylor doing double duty here and with the 'Knot.
