Wolvennest

Since their auspicious 2016 debut, Wolvennest (sometimes known as WLVNNST, per their debut album) have charted a quite unique path for themselves. Psychedelic blackened doom is the starting point here, though it's not the most descriptive of terms even if all three elements (particularly the first and third) are present. At times they're a bit spacey and droney, almost ambient at others, often with driving simplistic song structures that nonetheless are captivating. Songs can be slow to develop and often don't wander far, which occasionally makes certain tracks a bit repetitive, but it's all about mood and atmosphere here. Vocals are quite varied, but recently Shazzula's clear, semi-spoken intoned style has been the prevalent form, giving the band yet another touch of uniqueness. One of the more original takes on the genre, and now a bonafide BNR favorite. In addition to their work here, there's also The Nest, essentially Wolvennest with some additional members (mostly vocal), which may or may not be ongoing.
