Phantasm
Phantasm was a short-lived thrash band more famous for
its pedigree than its recordings, featuring Katon DePena
of
Hirax
alongside original
Metallica
bassist Ron McGovney.
A 1987 demo,
Wreckage, was recorded, but the band
disintegrated amidst personal squabbles before getting
signed.
That demo, packaged with some live tracks also from 1987,
was released in CD form in 2001.
The music combined aggressive early thrash with DePena's
distinctive wailing vocals -- rough, but promising stuff, from
a band that could have developed into something major had
not age differences and experience caused its downfall.
