Sarke

Sarke (the man) had already made a name for himself as the drummer for two fine Norwegian black metal acts in Khold and Tulus in the late 90's and early 2000's. In 2008 he formed a new project named after himself, initially as pretty much a solo effort but soon expanding to a proper band, roping in several notables in the Norwegian scene, including Darkthrone's Nocturno Culto. Often the band is described as black/thrash, but the thrash tendencies aren't pronounced even in their early days and have all but disappeared on their later efforts, while the black aspect is there, but not in the usual sense. What is on offer is a with a healthy dose of Celtic Frost (Nocturno Culto's vocals are largely responsible for this, but it goes beyond that), plenty of mid-paced slightly blackened riffing, along with an increasing broadening of moods on the later albums. Sarke has carved out a nice niche here, blending his influences to produce a style that's both familiar and yet original at the same time.
