Alkemyst
This French band began as Endless in 1992, and spent many years honing
their craft before the name change in 1999 and their eventual debut
album in 2003, followed by the album reviewed here, 2008's
Through Painful Lanes.
They are often described as power metal, but perhaps that's due to their
earlier work, as
Lanes sees this band squarely in the melodic
progessive mold, albeit with some speedy power metal moments.
This is pretty adventurous and quite mature, with an expert production,
soaring melodic vocals and solid musicianship through and through.
Euro power/prog fans take note, this is another band to seek out.
