Bolt Thrower
One of England's oldest and most well-known death/grindcore bands,
Bolt Thrower arose from hardcore/thrash roots in 1986, signing to
the hardcore Vinyl Solution label for their 1988 debut album.
Feeling their style didn't fit the label, they jumped to
then-upstart
Earache
Records and became one of the label's flagbearers for several years
before moving on to
Metal Blade
in 2001.
Their style, largely unchanged throughout their career, retained
elements of thrash, death metal, and grindcore, the latter of which
is often attributed to them though they considered themselves death
metal.
Their career was formally closed in September 2016, the band announcing
the breakup a year after the untimely death of their drummer
Martin Kearns.
A couple of members later formed a band in tribute to Kearns,
that being
Memoriam .
