Kataklysm

The Canadian death metal scene has been thriving for a number of years, and Kataklysm is that scene's oldest and most recognizeable name, having formed in 1991 and releasing a slew of successful albums during the course of their career. Their early work shows them at their most frenetic and hyperactive, giving rise to the self-coined term "Northern Hyperblast" describing their unique style. The consensus is that their albums have consistently been of superior quality with the possible exception of Victims Of This Fallen World, which featured a more hardcore vocal style from then-new vocalist Maurizio Iacono and somewhat of a shift in direction. They have since rebounded and are still considered a premier death metal band.
