Prototype

Prototype plays technical progressive power metal, somewhat similar to later Watchtower (though Prototype is less thrashy, and less prone to odd time signatures). Cloned, and its followup Trinity, are everything a real progressive metal album should be -- excellent musicianship all around (most impressive is the superb drumming of Pat Magrath), a solid production, and (most importantly) a keen sense of songwriting. Not many bands are playing metal with this level of complexity these days, but these guys pull it off with style. Prototype has an extremely bright future in front of them.
