Anubis Gate
Scandinavian progressive metal has been a force for a
number of years, with bands such as
Pagan's Mind ,
Pain Of Salvation ,
Circus Maximus ,
and many others releasing quality albums in recent times.
Add Denmark's Anubis Gate to that list, as their 2007
effort
Andromeda Unchained shows them at the top
of their game, delivering flawless melodic prog
metal, accessible yet not poppy, technical yet not
over-indulgent.
Vocalist/guitarist Jacob Hansen used to be more well-known
for his thrashier band
Invocator
(as well as producer/engineer for several bands)
but he's a star here, with a clear, higher-pitched voice
that complements the music perfectly.
Anubis Gate doesn't quite have the same name recognition
as the other major players, but if they keep progressing,
that should change.
