Epica

The Netherlands has a penchant for producing great gothic/symphonic metal bands with impressive female vocalists. Sharon den Adel (WiTe]) and Floor Jansen (formerly of After Forever) made the marks on the scene early in the new millenium, and in fact the latter band once featured guitarist Mark Jansen, who left to form this band Epica, and in the process unearthing another fine vocalist in Simone Simons. Specializing in power/symphonic metal, Epica debuted in 2002 with the excellent The Phantom Agony and remains a leader in the scene more than a decade later.
