Ne Obliviscaris

Australians Ne Obliviscaris seem set on on establishing themselves as the all-encompassing prog metal band. This is complex, sweeping, and epic, with a little bit of everything -- harsh and clean vocals with plenty of interplay between the two, a good deal of the requisite flashy musicianship expected of prog metal bands, dense arrangements with intense highs and somber lows, and notably, prominent violins (often a lead instrument, arguably more central to their sound than any other metal band). Bands of this ilk aren't shooting for mainstream airplay and this level of more-is-more complexity isn't for everyone, but those into serious, modern prog metal should definitely lend an ear here.
