To-Mera

To-Mera was founded by the pair of Julie Kiss (former vocalist for the Hungarian gothic band Without Face) and Lee Barrett (one-time bassist for the cult grindcore act Extreme Noise Terror, and more recently a respected record exec with Candlelight and Elitist Records). In short order a lineup was in place and a record, Transcendental, was released in 2006. And an impressive record it is, a mature progressive rock/metal album with graceful, soaring vocalist from Julie (for whatever reason, it's rare to find a female vocalist fronting a prog metal band, even as women have succeeded in singing in other metal genres), outstanding musicianship from all members with keyboardist Hugo Sheppard and drummer Akos Pirisi (since departed) in particular deserving high marks. This is clearly one of the better prog metal albums released in some time, thus earning To-Mera a highly-recommended tag. Barrett later stepped down from the bassist position as he couldn't commit to touring, but remains involved with the band behind the scenes, and they've now got four releases to their credit.
