Angel Witch

Angel Witch's 1980 self-titled debut album remains a classic to this day, and a defining moment of the NWOBHM genre, containing such tracks as crowd favorite "Angel Witch" and the utterly brilliant "Angel Of Death" -- indeed, modern doom bands such as Candlemass found much inspiration from that debut. But two short years later, the band had already broken up, with the rhythm section moving on to form Tytan and mainman Kevin Heybourne briefly flirting with Deep Machine before finally putting together a new version of the band, which release two albums in 1985 and 1986 (Screamin' And Bleedin' and Frontal Assault, both decent enough but mostly forgotten now). Since then there have been countless breakups and revivals with new lineups as Heybourne continues to regain that early magic. But while Angel Witch may never be topped, Angel Witch the band remains a viable option, recording as late as 2012 and still active in 2017.
