Wolf

Wolf is a nice little release from a young Swedish band, musically quite atypical of the current scene. The music here is straight from the NWOBHM period of the early 80's (think very early Iron Maiden), energetic and fast-paced, with a unpolished (in a good way) guitar sound that gives the songs a rough edge. The vocals, in my opinion, don't quite fit -- his voice is clear, but overly melodic and high-pitched, more in tune with more recent German power metal bands than the raw metal sounds of the music itself. Nonetheless, there is a sense of youthful enthusiasm that drives the songs forward, making this an enjoyable listen. This band seems to have come out of nowhere, it will be interesting to see how/if they develop their style further.
